garden design process
A good design follows a process, Susan works to set phases: Design Concept, Design Build and Design Planting. Phasing the design ensures a check and client approval, before moving to the next phase.

The first step is arrange a time for an initial consultation. All key family members or business holders should be present for the Initial Consultation.
initial consultation

At this meeting we set discuss your objectives and budget and ensure the garden design process is understood and agreed.

You can use the initial consultation preparation questions to explore how you feel about your garden space, and guide  the discussion.

Following the initial consultation, you will receive a fee proposal  including design objectives overview and a breakdown of the steps to proceed. The initial consultation meeting and fee proposal are free of charge.

design concept phase

A survey of your garden will establish the size and shape of the plot and include information about any level changes and existing services. The survey is essential to prepare the design and enable accurate measurements. The site survey drawing will become the basis for the design along with the client brief (completed by the client).

The site survey will include the collection of soil samples, pictures and site data analysis. Once the survey is drawn up and the client brief is returned signed, Susan can begin working on the garden design. A rendered design concept plan (describing the various new elements of the garden, design description), sketches and a mood board (to communicate the feel of materials and plants) will be provided to you.

After further discussion with you, the design concept plan can be revised. When the plan is finalised, an estimate detailing the cost for the construction of the various parts of the garden can be created.

design build phase (hardscape)

Prior to the hard landscaping, a set of detailed construction drawings, setting out plan, specification and the tender documentation are sent to contractors to quote against. Project monitoring visits during the build ensures that the project is proceeding to plan.

design planting phase

Planting plans for the garden will be created once the hard landscape build is underway.

Larger shrubs and trees may be planted during project build.

planting (plants and labour)

A proposal for plants, planting sundries and labour is provided once the planting plan is agreed.

This includes the delivery, placing in position and planting of plants for the design.

A maintenance plan for the garden, provided after planting completion, guides you with the caring of your new garden.
