Susan Summers, principal garden designer and managing director of Summers Garden Designs is passionate about gardens and gardening.

In twenty four years of project management and technical design, Susan has developed a special understanding of the importance of working closely with clients and understanding their needs and beliefs. You will find Susan has both a creative and professional approach to the garden design business.

Susan holds a BSc (Hons) in Garden Design, a Masters Certificate in Project Management and an ONC in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering.

Susan lectured at the Royal Horticultural Society School of Horticulture, teaching Garden History and Design Principles, 2011-2014.

In 2017 Susan was awarded National Collection status by Plant Heritage for Francoa. Plant Heritage is the world’s leading cultivated plant conservation charity, bringing together the talents of botanists, horticulturalists and conservationists and the dedication of keen amateur and professional gardeners. The Francoa can be seen incorporated into the gardens borders.
  • Susan was Regional Co-ordinator for the Society of Garden Designers, Mid-South region, Susan provided and organised professional development for 150+ garden designers across the south of England, 2010-2017. 

    Susan and Patrick open their garden for the National Garden Scheme charities, and were honoured to have their garden on the cover of the National NGS yellow book in 2013.

    Susan grows vegetable plants to help local horticultural society (Winchester Horticultural Society) with their annual plant sale. Susan also sells the plants on the day. Proceeds go to the WHS.

    In their spare time Susan and her husband Patrick produce fruit and vegetables in their kitchen garden, for the table and annual Autumn Horticultural Show.
